- I've dealt with EEB a number of times, been to their showroom about
- a half-dozen times, and I've had mixed experiences with them. At
- times, I've had knowledgable conversations with people who work
- there; on other occasions, I've gotten blank stares when asking
- simple questions about equipment they carry. To my mind, the
- quality of the service there depends on the luck of the draw. When
- they're good, they're very very good. When they're bad, they're
- near-useless. But if you get someone bad, it's not too hard to find
- someone who knows what they're talking about; they do have *some*
- there.
-
- Universal, on the other hand, seems to have salespeople who *all*
- know their stuff. The difference, I suppose, between having your
- friends come in on weekends as you say EEB does, and hiring
- full-time professionals, as Universal seems to do. I've talked to
- people who know their stuff at both EEB and Universal (and Gilfer,
- too.) The difference is that I've never talked to anyone who didn't
- know their stuff at Universal or Gilfer, and I have at EEB, more
- than once.

-
- Universal and Gilfer both have well-stocked showrooms staffed with
- knowledgable people as well. I agree that everyone should be so
- lucky as to have one of the full-service hobbyist stores nearby. I
- wouldn't recommend avoiding EEB or anything; they're certainly in
- the top-rung of stores. But in an industry where service is the
- differentiating factor instead of price, by and large, you can do
- better than EEB.
