- [ tale of battery fading in and out depending on use... ]
-
- I recently noticed similar behaviour on my EOS 630, though not as
- severe (bouncing between 2 and 3 bars on the battery check). At first
- I thought it was temperature (it can be quite cold in Toronto these
- days). However, I suggest trying a different brand of battery.
-
- I've been told that "Not all lithium batteries are created equal.". My
- previous batteries were Sanyo (makers of *real* 2CR5 batteries) and
- Everready. Both of these seemed to discharge in a more-or-less linear
- fashion. Interestingly, they were also housed in plastic casings
- similar to each other, but dissimilar to my current (Varta) and spare
- (Maxell-Hitachi) battery.
-
- The Sanyo and Everready casings looked completely sealed. The Varta
- and Maxell batteries have a horizontal split on the ends of the casing
- which look like they can be pried at.
-
- Interestingly, the Varta and Maxell batteries sell for about 2/3rds the
- cost of the Everready. (Now I pause to scratch my head and go, "Hmmmm.".)
-
- So, find a store that carries a different brand and try it out.
- Again Sanyo, and I think Panasonic are the "official" 2CR5 battery
- makers. Canon markets a 2CR5 under their own label, but I've never
- tried it.
-
- It is interesting to see that Canon can adjust the sensitivity to
- voltage. Are you going to go for the modification? Did the Canon
- rep. say anything about what you'd be risking?
-
- Good luck. Let us know what happens.
