- Hm. Why so much stuff? If you could pare it down to a body, a
- telephoto lens, a wide angle lens and some accessories, I think I have an
- answer for you. The trick is to carry more outside your big back
- pack.
-
- First, get two of those quick release buckles and sew the top half of
- each to your shoulder pads. Make a small camera strap that ends in
- the bottom half of the buckle. Now you can carry your camera along
- with lens and it's easy to take off and mount on your tripod.
-
- Second, get a fanny pack like the "expandable" one from Eddie Bauer.
- It has enough room for two lenses in foam&leather bags plus film, some
- filters, a cable release, and a table-top tripod. If you're
- travelling with two lenses, then with one on the camera there's room
- for your extension tubes, too.
-
- Third, lash your tripod to your pack. Tripods always slow you down,
- having to unlash the thing shouldn't be that big an inconvenience.
-
- I've used a variation this setup for playing tourist instead of
- carrying around my shoulder bag. It's seen me through a week in
- London, England, and countless trips around Washington, DC and Boston,
- MA.
