- I interpreted Anne's displeasure as being completely focused on the woman,
- not on the breed. (dog of a big aggressive breed being aggressive toward
- another dog and the woman unable (unwilling?) to intervene or take control)
-
- Anne specifically did not mention the breed's name so that further myth
- propogation would not take place. She discussed the woman's behaviour at
- length. It was her behaviour, not the existence of big aggressive breeds
- that she was complaining about. Am I right, Anne?
-
- The purpose for mentioning that it was a big aggressive breed is precisely
- that big aggressive breed dogs who are not under control can do serious
- damage--damage that a little soft mouthed breed dog who is not under control
- can't even begin to equal. If someone doesn't want to train or be in
- control of their dog, that's fine with me. Dogs have different roles in
- different peoples' lives. If you want to pamper and spoil and not train
- your dog, get a cock-a-poo, or a basset hound, or a toy poodle, and keep it
- on your own property.
-
- I've recently learned that one of the (big aggressive breed dogs) that goes
- to our local off leash dog park has yet again put another dog in the hospital.
- A lot of stitches and atibiotics. This is not the first time this dog has
- attacked and seriously injured a dog. In fact, several years ago this
- particular dog killed another dog at the dog park. This is the owner's
- fault--not the dog's. But the breed is important. That kind of damage
- could not have been done by an equally uncontrolled toy poodle.
-
- I have no idea why people are attracted to these breeds. But it is sad and
- dangerous for all involved when someone who is not willing to control/train
- their dog chooses to get a dog from a big aggressive breed. Can you tell
- that this is one of my pet peeves, as well?
