  12. Here's the most helpful reply I received when asking about GSD's in IL/IN
  13. area.  I am betting that Kay won't mind me posting this.  (Thanks!)

  15. I called and talked to Wendy.  I was quite impressed and made plans to
  16. put money down on a pup for delivery in January.  The next day I ran into
  17. a (stray) GSDX pup about to be put down at our local vet.  I couldn't
  18. refuse her - she was perfect.  (But, alas, she's currently being given the
  19. silent/confined treatment for making a mess out of some decorative plants
  20. while I was out briefly this morning.  More my fault than hers...)

  22. Anywayz...I still plan to purchase a GSD from them, but it will probably
  23. be a more mature dog for the farm.

  38. These folks have a small operation just large enough (IMHO) to take care of the
  39. dogs properly without hired hands. It's a family operation, more or less. I
  40. counted 8 Shepards there when I last visited. They also have 2 or 3 Goldens
  41. which they just acquired for hunting purposes. They live out in the middle of
  42. nowhere, as he's a farmer.

  44. Okay, here's the info. Greenfield Shepards, owned by Wendy Urban (and her
  45. hubby) RR#1 Box 241, Cissna Park, IL 60924. Phone is 815-457-2641.

  47. They usually sell to service organizations through distributors, so you may end
  48. up on the waiting list. She said she had 3 or 4 folks waiting on a list for a
  49. black female...WOW! Fortunately, no one got to the black male before we did!
  50. (We didn't get him because he was black, he was the only male and that's what
  51. we wanted since our Cocker is female...).

  53. There's another breeder, highly recommended up in Rockford too. My Mom knows
  54. what I'd call a "German Shepard Connosieur"- an old man who's had Shepards all
  55. his life and only goes looking for the absolute BEST. The last of his old dogs
  56. just died and he went hunting all over the country for the best GSDs, ending up
  57. as he said "In my own backyard". My Mother tutored one of their kids once. If
  58. you are interested, I'll see if she can get the info for me. These are the "big
  59. boned" ones though, I don't think.
