- We have a shepard mix that has a strange skin condition and I am at a loss
- as to what to try next.
-
- Here are the symptoms:
- Skin turns red, and is hot, then gets darker, almost black.
- He'll bite his fur out and scratch all over.
- His nose runs and he scratches it with his forepaws and the carpet.
- Sometimes, when he has fur, he gets little scabs on his back, about the
- diameter of a pencil (don't really look like bites.)
- There are no fleas on him, and skin scrapings at vets have revealed no
- ticks or mange.
- He has been on Predizone (sp?). It no longer seems to help.
- He stinks. To eliminate the odor we need to bathe him about once every
- four days.
- Changing his diet doesn't seem to help, either.
- Aloe vera seems to soothe his skin.
- During the spring he chewed off most of the hair he could reach, but now
- it has mostly grown back. The insides of his thighs and belly still
- get red and irritated, however. He also still chews on his hair but
- doesn't pull it out as much.
-
- Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

- Thanks in advance...
