- I have replied to several people personally, and to all who have
- posted directly to me but almost always this mail bounces. So want
- to thank you and let you know that I did try to respond.
- I'm going to try to get the airline cable for the "trolley" this
- week, Cheska's Christmas present.
- For the doberman with the skin problem, maybe he needs to be on
- hypoallergenic food. I had a red dobe who started having skin
- problems at age 6 mos. She spent her life partially bald, but
- it wasn't until she was a very old dog that I started cooking her
- a homemade version of KD (kidney diet). Her hair grew back and her
- skin healed. She had been on all sorts of professional dog food
- prior to this. She lived to be nearly 13.
- happy holidays to all. BTW--I don't want to get into the apartment
- dog issue other than to say--it depends not on the breed so much
- but on the individual. My shorthairs (60 - 75 lbs) live in a relatively
- small space. Their yard is small and they have to take turns, other
- wise they are in small pens. Most of them "hunt" continuously when they
- are out. Jamie probably runs 50 miles a day. jamie and his six kids are
- in rock hard condition. I do not let them loose in the house except for
- Jamie--he hunts in the house too. Cheska, same breed would need a field
- to get the same exercise. She is not in condition. I can't trust her
- loose so she just has to be a couch potato. She is not related to
- Jamie's line. Rita used to be like Jamie but now is very old and
- sedate. Sophie was extremely active and entertained herself until her
- hips gave out. German Shorthaired Pointers are shown in both breed
- and field and there are many dual champions. The most famous GSP
- to date is Britannia--most all time winning show bitch, she recently
- completed her field championship. She has produced a number of field,
- breed and obedience titled children. Jamie has 15 champion brothers and
- sisters, several with hunting and obedience titles. There are problems
- in the breed but you can pretty much take one of these dogs out of the
- field and into the breed ring or the reverse. I'm not sure they are
- the dog for all people--probably too active and too birdy. I would
- hate to see them get popular. But I do think that some of them can
- keep in hard condition in relatively small spaces.
- Another soapbox.
