- My Australian Shepherd X (Meggin) is -- we think -- part lab. Who
- really knows? She is reddish brown with white and tan markings --
- her markings and coloring looks remarkably like the pure shepherd
- in our obedience class. Her eyes are this weird but pretty yellow-
- green color, almost exactly the color of the purebred's eyes.
- Meggin definitely has that herding instinct -- when we first
- brought her home she and our lab were chasing each other around
- the backyard, and the look on our lab's face when her ankles got
- nipped was hilarious! I have to be careful if I run while playing
- with the dogs because Meggin tries to herd me too! Meggin is 33.5 lbs
- and is basically medium-sized. She is very smart but starting to
- be a little stubborn, but we're waiting for our foster puppy to
- leave (3 days...) and for Christmas to be over before we worry about
- serious training. She is very friendly and loves to wag her whole
- body! Meggin has a long tail which is reddish-brown with a white
- tip. I know Australian Shepherds aren't supposed to have tails,
- but it is a very friendly (and destructive, but our lab's whole body
- is destructive so we're used to it) tail. It curls when she is happy,
- kind of like a husky's I guess.
-
- Meggin was found as a stray by a Humane Society volunteer (before
- I started volunteering). One Saturday I took my husband to the
- HS pet center "just to look". We thought we wanted a lab, but
- Meggin was so cute we decided to take her out of the cage just
- for fun. Well, one look at that wagging tail and we were sunk.
- She is a wonderful dog!
