  27. To make full sense of Steve's data, one would first have to know
  28. what proportion of *all* vehicles--including those that did *not*
  29. strike deer--had whistles.

  31. In other words, two of twenty-four vehicles--about 8%--involved
  32. in vehicle-deer collisions had whistles.  What percent of *all*
  33. vehicles had (or have) whistles?  If fewer that 8%, it would
  34. suggest that people with whistles are *more* likely to hit deer.
  35. Clearly there are many more variables than this involved but...
  36.  
  37. One more data point--I don't use them and I've never hit a deer.  :)
  38. I shouldn't have said that--now a whole herd of them will probably
  39. kamikaze my vehicle...
