- In my opinion, the best thing for tying a dog outside is a 'running chain'.
- It's probably cheaper than a flexi too...
-
- All you need is a length of clothesline wire (the stuff with the plastic
- coating) which you can buy by the foot or in pre cut lengths (usually 50
- feet) at the hardware store. Also get a 2" metal ring while you are there and
- a length of chain with a clip at each end.
-
- The clothes line gets tied across the yard between two points...from tree to
- tree, tree to porch, tree to post, etc, whatever is available. Make sure you
- put the line through the metal ring before you tie the second end. Tie it so
- there is no slack, about 7 feet or more off the ground. Try to choose two
- points that have no other trees or posts between them. Then clip one end of
- the metal chain to the metal ring, the other end to the dog's BUCKLE collar.
- The chain should be equal in length the the height of the clothesline plus a
- few feet.
-
- The whole thing probably costs <$20. Sure it takes a couple minutes to set
- up, but it is strong, can be set up anywhere (I usually take one along on
- camping trips) and allows the dog more freedom of movement with less risk of
- tangling than anything else I know of! When I was in a house with an unfenced
- yard, I had one that went all the way from the back door to a tree at the
- other end of the yard. The dog had access to nearly the whole yard and I
- could attach him without going outside.
-
- Oh. Another option if you have a tree in the center of the yard! Get a length
- of clothesline long enough to fit loosely around the base of the tree and
- something to attach the ends so it is a smooth ring. Again, put a metal ring
- onto it and attach the dog to the metal ring with a metal chain...any length
- you want depending on how clear the rest of the yard is. Now your dog can go
- X feet away from the tree in any direction without getting tangled! This is
- even cheaper and easier...
