-
- Yes, and it depends on the pair. You are keeping them separate until just
- before they breed? And separating them out again after? A permanent,
- mixed-sex cage of canaries is asking for disasters.
-
- Also be aware they may not like each other. Just because you want them to
- doesn't mean they'll cooperate. And it's possible for one to really hurt or
- kill the other.
-
- How much research did you do before starting this? You did pick up a book on
- canary breeding, right? Or are you flying blind? (if it's the latter, split
- them into separate cages and go do your homework).

-
- Oh, yes. The top perch is the most important thing in their lives. My
- canaries (all males) love arguing about it.

-
- Second only to the food dish.

-
- If they have blood in the stool they're seriously stressed. They have to be
- separated. It's not the separaration that was causing the stress, but the
- togetherness and competition.
-
- >Has anyone seen this sort of

-
- Bird breeding is not easy or trivial, and it shouldn't be don't casually.
- Are you sure you want to make the committment? Have you done the research to
- know what you need to do? Do you have the equipment and supplies? The time?
-
- If the answer to any of those is anyhting but "Hell, yes" you're asking for
- trouble and you need to drop back, punt and regroup after halftime. Start
- with some basic homework on what canaries are and what breeding them really
- means. It's a lot more than shoving a couple of random birds at each other
- and waiting for baby birds to pop out the other side of the factory.
