- Well, once upon a time (last summer, actually), I made a rasta-mon
- character in a superhero role-playing game. Quite a good time,
- actually! I got to research rastifarianism as background material,
- and was even required by the GM to speak the part.
-
- So I sat down to my studies. Unfortunately, all the books on rasta
- and creole dialects were missing from the black studies section of our
- library. I wound up using William Gibsons _Neuromancer_ as my primary
- source, extracting quotes by Maelcom (the self-proclaimed rede-boy!
- ;-). Oh, and I of course caught the weekly reggae program on a local
- alternative radio station. :-)
-
- Anyway, it was a lot of fun...and a lot of work! Funny how this part
- of a game had worked its way into my life. So I started thinking of
- ways to make it easier. One of these included writing a rasta text
- filter in 'lex'!
-
- Unfortunately (you knew this was coming, eh?), I accidentally erased
- all my work on 'rasta.l' in a mad dash to get my account under the
- disk quota. Boy, did I regret that! And I'm sure y'all can guess how
- cooperative the sysadmins were in retrieving the file... *sniff*
-
- So I'm not actually offering a rastaspeak filter here, but I would
- like to propose that *someone* do it. That is to say, someone with a
- little more *time* than me: I just got into a new job and have stuff
- to do up to here [holds hand above head].
-
- Help your net.community! Earn world-wide fame! All this could be
- yours with a little bit of effort. 'Course, I'm sure the rest of
- the rec.music.reggae readership would be glad to lend a hand in
- listing what they know of the grammar and idioms...
-
- Jah love,
- - Mark
