- I was listening to a tape of Matt Malloy in my car the other day,
- and was overwhelmed as usual. I started wondering how many other
- musicians could be as universally respected as the master of
- his/her instrument in his/her musical genre as Matt Malloy is
- for Irish music on the flute. I thought this question might make
- a good topic for more lists (which we seem to love).
-
- Here's what I thought of as I was driving:
-
- Matt Malloy Irish flute
- Noel Hill Irish Anglo-Concertina
- Kenny Baker Bluegrass Fiddle
- Clifton Chenier Zydeco Piano-Accordion
- Alisdair Frazier (sp?) Scottish Fiddle
- Mary Bergin Irish Tin Whistle
-
- I might pick: Liz Carroll Irish Fiddle
- but does she really qualify?
-
- P.S. I know that the "correct" response to this question
- is that such rankings are meaningless etc. etc. and I agree.
- This posting is only for fun and, hopefully, to start an
- interesting thread from which I might learn something.
