- I am not sure that Scott Blackwell is really behind in the times.
- He was on the cutting edge of dance music. Of course, this makes him
- the jewel of the new CCM breed. He really is almost straight out
- of the Studio 54 scene. I think christian music is catching up.
-
- In some instances, artists such as tourniquet are turning out
- truly awesome stuff. Perhaps this is more of a sensation
- with the more metal based artists. I mean, Dig Hay Zoose sounds
- an aweful lot like the much-acclaimed (on secular college campuses)
- Fungo Mungo with the heavy guitars and funky bass grooves.
- Prayer Chain and Raspberry Jam are from Orange County. Yhey
- keep getting better and better. They aren't metal based. But, they
- aren't behind the times. In fact R Jam is really original sounding.
- So is Adam Again. These are the people who will venture into
- the uncharted ground of CCM land. Prayer Chain is now even
- more popular than the 77's in the LA/Orange county area.
- I went to a reacent concert, the 77's were the scheduled headliners
- and it ended up being Prayer Chain all the way. The crowd wanted to
- mosh really badly. And they did. The 7''s were noticably annoyed.
- They are also not really all that original in my opinion, and they
- aren't alternative. But not everyone can be measured by the majority
- of unoriginal material. There are certainly some you have not yet
- heard that may surprise you. I haave been surprized all this
- past year by the alternative and metal market.
-
- Oh, nmy other point is that there are always people who are a bit
- behind the times. Have you heard the new Fleshtones album?? They
- sound like a flashback to the music I listened to in 84.
- The Chistian market is actually better quality stuff compared to
- college oriented material bieng played on college radio stations.
-
- I am a DJ on my college radio station. There is a guy who does
- a speed/death metal show before mine and he loves some of the stuff
- I play. One time he said, "Man, this could just be a continuation
- of my show." I was playing Bride, Tourniquet, Mad At the World,
- Die Happy, etc. I have also Played the Newsboys after Lush and Curve.
- They actually have a similar British pop/fluff grunge sound. I am
- trying to play all Christian stuff. Iam doing pretty well o that.
- I have also played stuff off Myx and dance House Children along
- with Orb and Pop will eat Itself.
-
- The more I think about it, the more I think you ought to go listen
- to both worlds so you can compare. The music isn't so different
- like it was with Undercover and the Altar Boys. Anyway, hope everyone \
- learned something.
