  13. In the last year or two that I've been collecting compact discs, this is
  14. the second time this has happened.

  16. I put a CD, which had worked properly in the past, into my player and
  17. there was an unusually long pause (during the time when my player
  18. normally reads the track information).  Then, when I tried to play the
  19. disc, the player said, "PLAY", for a few seconds, then stopped.  When I
  20. played with the display (which normally tells me the number of tracks
  21. and total length of the CD), all the player showed were a bunch of
  22. zeroes, so I assume the player failed to read the disc's tracking
  23. information.

  25. I intend to return the disc and get a new one, as I did when this
  26. happened to another disc months ago, but I am wondering if anyone else
  27. has experienced this problem with CDs.

  29. Would anyone like to say what (might) cause this?
