- You don't need this with the Amulet. Same goes for the Gauntlets.

- Resistance items are not cumulative, so the Ring is only useful because
- of the +5 to AC and the armour for its ordinary protection.

-
- Yes yes yes - unless you have enough invlunerability potions to last
- for much of the fight. Resist heat (or cold) potions
- will be cumulative with one permanent item. Thus a Balrog breath will
- do 1000HP damage with no resist, 333 with an item or potion, but only
- 111 with an item AND a potion. Potions and spells are cumulative as
- regards TIME so if you can use up all the charges on your staff of
- speed before he starts on you that will be great. Permanent speed
- items however are cumulative.
-
- The Balrog has 3000 hit points. This means that even if he had an AC
- of 0 you would need an average of 77 hits with your

-
- so without going into hit rates, the AC/damage equation, critical hits
- etc, you need either more invunerability potions or resist heat plus
- healing or at least critical wounds to rectify blindness, confusion
- etc from spells.
-
- Good hunting!
