  33. I had exactly the same situation when I crossed 2000.  I called USCF and
  34. explained the situation, and they sent me the crosstables with a letter
  35. showing that the numerical rating calcuation was in fact correct.  Which was
  36. quite true and quite irrelevant.  Apparently, the person on the phone was
  37. unable to understand that I was talking about the title, although I did make
  38. the facts clear.

  40. On the theory that nobody except Bill Goichberg cares about these things
  41. anyway, I decided not to waste any more time.  Besides, this is only the
  42. title/rating system change du jour.  Next year we'll all be trying to figure
  43. out how the new, undocumented froobie point change works.  The conversation
  44. will probably go something like: "You mean I played an even number of games
  45. and I only get +12 froobie points because my third round opponent was a
  46. provisional player with a foreign title?.  Isn't that deflationary?  This is
  47. simply outrageous."

  49. A few months later, the title corrected itself automagically.  So the
  50. problem seem to be that the administrative software components aren't
  51. integrated, and you'll just waste your time talking with USCF.

  53. My question: Why did they adopt that silly new display format of xxxx+xxxx?
  54. Sure looks like it came right out of the bowels of the rating program.  The
  55. unofficial/offical label made a lot more sense, and it seemed to leave the
  56. door open for true monthly processing.  Now they've kind of institutionalized
  57. the lag.  Maybe they plan on going to semi-annual updates for 93?
