  22. valkyries.andrew.cmu.edu in the directory pub/chess/DOS as a zip file
  23. giics151.zip requiring unzip version 5.0 to unzip it. I don't think
  24. there is a great difference between 1.51 and 1.53 aside from
  25. the problem in 1.53 with extra carriage returns. You should have
  26. a file called giics.rev with the 1.53 release which ought to list the
  27. changes since 1.51.

  33.   When you unzip giics151.zip, you will see that the source is included.
  34. It was intended to be compiled by Borland C++, but uses an ASCII C subset
  35. and should be compilable with other C compilers and a few changes. The
  36. program bears a copyright by Tony Acero (ace3@quads.uchicago.edu), who
  37. I presume maintains it.

  42. A major change was made to ICS a couple of weeks ago.  I have written
  43. to Acero, mentioning the problems with ICS 2.0 and asking whether he
  44. plans to make an upgrade of GIICS.  He has yet to reply.

  46.   I believe the major problem with ICS 2.0 in regard to GIICS is a
  47. change in the Style 8 "board string" emitted by ICS.  I have written to
  48. the person who maintains ICS (sleator@cs.cmu.edu), explaining the
  49. problem. He replied that he was unaware the Style 8 had changed. I
  50. sent him a sample from my log to explain the problem. I haven't heard
  51. from him yet, either.

  53.   After compensating for this change, and fixing a couple of unrelated
  54. bugs, my personal version seems to work very well now.
