  25. So am I, I just found major errors in the problem.  :-(
  26. First let me explain the intended solution. The last moves
  27. are intended as you found them. I planned Kf2-f3 as the move
  28. preceeding these. So the position 'reached' is:

  40. White's Kf2-f3 is bad, since a7-a8=Q+ draws the game.

  42. Now, where did _I_ go wrong?
  43. Unfortunately I completely ignored the possibilty of captures in the last
  44. two reconstructed plies. Bc8-b7+ isn't the only unmove before e2-e4,
  45. other possibilities are Bc8xXb7+, where X is P,N,B,R or Q.
  46. Needless to say that these options make the problem worthless.
  47. Also, considering Bc8-b7+ as the move before e2-e4, white could have
  48. played Kf2xXf3 to reach the position, or even b6xXa7 !! (with
  49. X any piece except K) I simply didn't think of all these possibilities
  50. when I made up the problem.

  52. Reformulating the problem by prohibiting captures in unmoves is
  53. impossible since it also eliminates the en-passant capture. I'll try
  54. to rescue the problem and post it to rec.games.chess whenever I think
  55. I eliminated these errors.
