- CREWS LOOK FORWARD TO CHRISTMAS!
-
- The crews of the British Steel Challenge are experiencing cold, wintry
- showers, in the depths of the Southern Oceans. Nuclear Electric have
- widened their small lead over Commercial Union Assurance to twenty
- miles, but have since slowed down. All in the fleet seem to be in good
- spirits despite the hostile environment. With Christmas just a few
- days away, the crews' moral has taken a lift as some look forward to
- their first shower in weeks and others are planning a festive feast,
- the 45 degrees!
-
- Hofbrau Lager's onboard entertainment organiser, Michael Kay reported,
- "With our recent interludes, first the bottle screw and secondly with
- Tristan Lewis' and Jack Gordon-Smith's flying antics, amusement did
- not cease to leave the yacht. After the first interlude crew comments
- included "The Hofbrau Lager crew did not loose their "bottle" over the
- affair." While jack Gordon-Smith's performance on deck is still being
- assessed, but no-one can decide whether it was a Samba Dance or ballet
- pirouette!
-
- Michael Kay continues to comment, "We have coined our own sense of
- humour and this will remain with us in the future and no doubt be
- shared with our families upon our triumphant return. When fourteen
- people are thrown together to live in close proximity for a given
- length of time without newspapers or TV, life can be a pain or
- amusing. We are certainly sane, single minded and enjoying ourselves.
- It is important to us all knowing that we have a pretty merry band of
- groupies behind us."
-
- British Steel II continue towards Auckland, with jury rig in place, but
- head winds are preventing them from sailing without engine power.
- Richard Tudor reports, "Crew humour has not suffered, the latest
- competition is for the most positive comment, which have included, "The
- won't have to open Tower Bridge for us at the next sail past!" and
- "With a shorter mast it is much easier to take turns to be the
- Christmas fairy!"
