  17.    The Coast Guard originated as operators of rescue boats.  I cannot
  18.    imagine a greater good than saving lives.  They became paramilitary 
  19.    during WWII (if I recall correctly.)  Unfortunately, they remain 
  20.    paramilitary.  I, and it sounds like others as well, do not feel that
  21.    this is for the greater good.  We've already got one Navy.  Why do we
  22.    need two?  (Of course, I suppose it could be argued that the Coasties
  23.    at their worst are probably better than the Navy at its best when it
  24.    comes to vessel search and seizure. :-)
