- The Coast Guard originated as operators of rescue boats. I cannot
- imagine a greater good than saving lives. They became paramilitary
- during WWII (if I recall correctly.) Unfortunately, they remain
- paramilitary. I, and it sounds like others as well, do not feel that
- this is for the greater good. We've already got one Navy. Why do we
- need two? (Of course, I suppose it could be argued that the Coasties
- at their worst are probably better than the Navy at its best when it
- comes to vessel search and seizure. :-)
