  30. Block heaters, at least those commonly seen ones, heat up the coolant in the
  31. cooling jacket of the engine block. Some others a attached to the outside of
  32. the bottom of the oil pan, to heat up the oil.

  38. Depends on your engine size and the power rate of your heater, and most
  39. importantly, the air temprature. My honda accord '81, for example,
  40. has a block heater of 400 watts. The colder it is, the harder it is to
  41. start the car. It's ok so far for -40 degree as I experienced. There
  42. so many things involved in starting a car. If it is really cold, you have
  43. a chance of not being able to start your car.
