- I have a 78 International Scout II with a 345 V8, Holly 2010 carb, and
- Prestolite distributor that backfires through the carb when hot. This is a
- problem that goes away for a while but always returns. Do far I have:
-
- Rebuilt the heads - compression is OK.
- Replaced ALL vacuum hoses - 22" and steady at idle.
- Replaced the distributor, wires, coil, and plugs.
- Rebuilt the carb twice.
- Tried 10 BTDC, 5 BTDC (correct) and TDC timing.
- Paid a mechanic to replace the electronic control module in the
- new distributor. This seemed to work for three weeks but it could
- be a coincidence.
-
- The result of this is a beautifully working engine except for this !@#~$%^&*
- carb pop. I am running out of ideas (and money). Any suggestions would be
- appreciated.
