  12.     Don't know if this will help ya but I had the same problem with my
  13. car.  I bought an ols police car (89 Caprice with the police package).  At
  14. first the tranny was fine but as we all know the lack of respect the cops 
  15. show to their cars finally caught up with my car.  It sounded exactly like
  16. your problem - doesn't click into reverse but rather rolls after a few 
  17. seconds backwards, but when giving it some gas - nothing.  I took it to
  18. a transmission place and they rebuilt the thing for me ($1200 - ouch).  
  19. When they opened the pan up it was full of metal parts even though the
  20. level was ok.  Also one of the internal pumps was shot and basically they
  21. replaced every hard and soft part in there.  Your transmission is probably 
  22. in better shape than mine was but I would atleast replace the transmission
  23. fluid and maybe take a look at the internal parts as well.
