  16. A while back I asked for comments about the Acurus A250 for use with
  17. my B&W 801's.  I received many comments/recommendations and I would
  18. like to thank those who responded.

  20. No one responded with a dislike for the Acurus (two people own it
  21. and very much like it).  Two people tried it and preferred/own the Aragon
  22. 4004 (better bass control, image, transparency, etc.).

  24. A couple of those who responded suggested I listen to Krell, Rowland, ML
  25. and Bryston.  If I could afford a Krell (even used) or an ML I would
  26. audition them, but I can't afford them at this time.

  28. Due to the high praise for the Aragon 4004 I contacted Mondial and talked
  29. with Anthony Federici (only praise for the way I was greeted) and he gave
  30. me the name and phone number of his nearest Aragon rep. to request a loan
  31. of the 4004 for in home use.  The rep. is 70 miles from my home, but he
  32. brought the Amp down to the Acurus dealer in my area (10 miles from me)
  33. and left it for me to demo.  I still have the amp at home waiting for
  34. mine to arrive.  Yes, I liked the 4004 better than the Acurus in my
  35. system and decided that the extra expense was worth it.  This is one
  36. company (Mondial) IMHO that has a great respect for their customers.

  38. I now have TWO more questions (both controversial):

  40. Speaker Cables:
  41. I currently use Kimber KC-1 interconnects throughout my system with
  42. Kimber 8TC bi-wired to the speakers.  Question: What do you other
  43. Aragon/801/802 users use as speaker cable?

  45. CD players:
  46. I currently have a Pioneer Elite CLD-95 combi-player (as I have mentioned
  47. before I am also heavily into video) and use it as my CD player.  It has
  48. dual 20 bit DAC's and is not the run of the mill pioneer product.  I am
  49. considering purchasing a dedicated CD player.  Any comments about the
  50. sound of the CLD-95 compared to hi-end players?  How about the new
  51. Sony 779ES? I was considering an outboard DAC with my CLD-95 but it
  52. has only a TOSLINK output so I am not sure if its worth the expense.
