- I never said that people who couldn't afford to donate
- shouldn't watch PBS. The original poster (was that you?) implied
- that he didn't contribute to PBS because of the pledge drives, and
- not that he couldn't afford it. His original statement was that if
- pledge drives were changed, he would consider contributing. That
- says to me that he can afford it, but he chooses not to

-
- Excuse me, but the reality is that PBS IS tied to private support.
- If people didn't donate money who would pay for the shows? The
- government (even though it's our tax money). Not likely.
- They're cutting back on what support they
- are giving, and many PBS stations get minimal government
- support to begin with. The producers of shows aren't going to donate
- their programming. So what do suggest?
-
- I feel that if people can afford to contribute, and they
- watch the programming, they should help pay for it. When I
- was making very little money, I still sent in a few dollars
- every year even though it wasn't nearly as much as they were asking
- for a membership.
