  28.   shouldn't watch PBS.  The original poster (was that you?) implied 
  29.   that he didn't contribute to PBS because of the pledge drives, and 
  30.   not that he couldn't afford it.  His original statement was that if 
  31.   pledge drives were changed, he would consider contributing. That
  32.   says to me that he can afford it, but he chooses not to
  33.   because he's annoyed at the way they run their pledge
  34.   drives.

  39.   Excuse me, but the reality is that PBS IS tied to private support.  
  40.   If people didn't donate money who would pay for the shows? The
  41.   government (even though it's our tax money). Not likely. 
  42.   They're cutting back on what support they
  43.   are giving, and many PBS stations get minimal government
  44.   support to begin with. The producers of shows aren't going to donate 
  45.   their programming.  So what do suggest?

  47.   I feel that if people can afford to contribute, and they
  48.   watch the programming, they should help pay for it.  When I
  49.   was making very little money, I still sent in a few dollars
  50.   every year even though it wasn't nearly as much as they were asking
  51.   for a membership.
