  17. The special commando squad is going into enemy territory with 
  18. only what they can carry with them.  How are they to know about
  19. a 500 foot cliff that they need to repel down?  That is why
  20. they don't have anti-grav boots.  So why do they have rope and
  21. repelling gear?  Because the rope and webbing is more versatile.

  23. Ever lug a pair of skiing boots around?  They are heavy and bulky.
  24. In the same way the anti-grav boots would be heavy also.  O sure you
  25. could run the boots so that they would be weightless - for as long
  26. as your batteries held up.  Then they would be useless.

  28. Ever lug some rope and webbing around?  In comparison they are light
  29. and are less bulky.  Their batteries won't run down.  They can be
  30. used for other situations also.

  32. For credits sake, I had the same question also.  My *wife* , who
  33. suffers through ST because I like it ( and because she hates Troi and
  34. wanted to see her put in her place this episode ), came
  35. up with the answer above.
