- I'll second this. You can't expect a tatt NOT TO hurt. But like the
- previous poster said, it doesn't hurt *that* much, nor for *that*
- long. I just got my second tatt on xmas eve, and most people's
- reactions have seemed to be "did it hurt?" I really don't understand
- this reaction though. Some folks I know really get into the sensation
- of the tattoo (a slight masochism, or whatever); I don't. But either
- way, the question seems to miss the point. I really wouldn't
- recommend anyone get a tattoo *because* they like the sensation, nor
- would I think anyone should decide NOT to get one *just because* of
- the pain. If you get one, you'll have it for the rest of your life;
- and you'll either really enjoy showing it to people for the rest of
- your life, and really love looking at yourself with it, or perhaps
- feel silly for getting it, or both, or neither. But whatever your
- feelings about it afterwards, you're going to more-or-less forget the
- moderate pain involved in getting it after a few days. What you
- either want or don't want is the image that results from it. In terms
- of the actual process of getting a tatt, I think of it more-or-less
- the same way as going to the dentist -- it's something you'd probably
- not be doing, but you do it for a reason, and it's over pretty
- quickly. If it were solely a question of which unpleasant thing I
- were to go through (subtracting the reasons for doing either), I would
- prefer to put up with a tattoo-gun than a dentist's drill -- but your
- results may differ.
