-
- pain has to be the number one question. right before "why?"
-
- someone sat and stuck me with needles for many hours. OF COURSE IT HURT!
-
- but not that much. really. i think you'll find most people describe it as
- a mild stinging sensation, and that it diminishes after a few minutes.
- after a couple of hours it starts to come back. i once had two hours of
- single needle work and at the end it was getting unbearable again. your
- first tattoo is also prone to more pain, most likely since you do not have a
- good idea for what is about to happen.
-
- needles come in different arrangements. a "single needle" as referred to
- above, is a single needle, and is most used for the initial outline or
- detail work. groupings are either circular (3, 5, 7 &c.) or a straight
- line. some claim that the larger groupings hurt less.
-
- i find that most of the pain depends on you and the part being tattooed.
- some people just hurt more. sigh. also places like ribs apparently hurt
- more, whilst fleshy bits don't experience that much pain. my calf muscle
- did not feel a thing when being done. however, my shin bone, surprisingly
- felt nothing either. (and anyone who owns a coffee table knows that the
- shin is a loverly place to hit :) :)
-
- the single most painful place for me? achilles tendon.
-
- what was it Lawrence of Arabia said? "of course it hurts, -- the trick is
- not minding..."
