- To Everyone: Merry Christmas (and a Happy New Year)!
-
- To Animeigo (esp. Woodhead-sama): Congratulations on the new family
- addition! Truly important events like that help to put our anime hobby
- in perspective. Also, I'm eagerly anticipating all of your LD releases
- (hopefully, this background hiss controversy can be resolved quickly).
- I'm also looking forward to the re-translation of BGC#8 (my favorite BGC
- episode because of the pacing, the humor, and the lack of melodrama)...
- a fan-subtitled version of this episode is what made me a fan of the
- series. I think that the wording of the fan-sub was just a little bit
- funnier than your videotape release. [Don't get me wrong, I love all
- the rest of your translations!] I would like the two-color subtitle
- approach to keep some of those quick sentences on screen longer (esp. in
- UY).
-
- Regarding: Getting People to Take Anime Seriously: I have to agree
- with Conty that "Grave of the Fireflies" would be the perfect anime.
- It's characters are engaging and believable. Paradoxically, I would not
- consider this a story for children even though it is about children.
- [Actually, I'm surprised this hasn't won an award of some sort.]
-
- Random Questions:
- 1) Where can I get a "Priss and the Replicants World Tour" t-shirt?
- I've seen these at both AnimeCon'91 and AnimeExpo'92 (as well as many
- SanDiego ComicCons), but no one seems to know how to get them. It has a
- silhouette of the members on the front (with the band name) and a list
- of fictional cities and years (e.g., Neo-Tokyo 2010) on the back. Being
- a big fan of "Blade Runner" when it first came out (and seeing every
- version of it since then, I really want to get this t-shirt.
-
- 2) Has anyone seen (or heard of) the "1001 (2001?) Nights" anime?
- I really enjoyed the lyric (yet apparently technically accurate) stories
- that were printed a couple of years ago (translated from the manga).
-
- 3) What does it mean (in Japan) when you use your index finger
- under an eye to pull it so that it's slightly larger? I believe that
- this is some form of "stink eye," but was wondering if someone could be
- more exact.
-
- 4) Does anyone remember why someone (was it PUMA?) used to call
- Nadia the "Evil Series" a few years ago. I hadn't seen Nadia when I
- first heard the reference, but, now that I've seen it, I still don't
- understand calling it "the Evil Series." [Yeah, I've been reading r.a.a
- for a while now.]
-
- 5) Does anyone know where to find videos/LDs/whatever of a
- live-action series called "Rainbow Man?" The main character used a
- (Buddhist/Shinto?) chant to change into a white outfit with a gold sun
- on his forehead or one of seven other outfits (one was dirt-colored,
- another was tree-colored, etc.). I remember seeing this as a child in
- Hawaii ('70s?). The bad guy was "Mister K (X?)" and he had a lot of
- female helpers who wore crosses and mini-skirts (vaguely anti-Western).
-
- Random Opinions:
- I don't like seeing all of the flames (subtle or not so subtle)
- that have begun to really take over in the last year or so. Although
- I plan to go to both Anime America and Anime Expo this year (if I can
- manage the time off), I refuse to ask Rumiko Takahashi (who I would
- really love to meet) to come to the states until we have only a single
- anime convention (next year, please?). By the way, not all of the
- flames I am talking about are related to the Anime convention mess.
-
- Until I make a decent .sig,

- P.S. Have a happy and safe holiday season!
