- People & Computers
- Call for Participation
-
- LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, U.K.
- 7-10 September 1993
-
- Conference Overview:
-
- The annual HCI conference brings together researchers and practitioners,
- from both industry and academia, who are working to improve the
- effectiveness of computers as tools for people. The conference is a
- major international forum for both the people-oriented disciplines of
- human factors, psychology and ergonomics, and the computer-oriented
- disciplines of software engineering, systems analysis and project
- management. Computer users from other disciplines are also welcome! We
- are particularly interested this year to bring together the engineering
- and computing/psychology strands of HCI.
-
- The HCI series of conferences is held under the auspices of the British
- HCI Group (formerly the Human-Computer Interaction Specialist Group of
- the British Computer Society). The Proceedings of HCI '93 will be
- published.
-
- Key Topics:
-
- Design and design methodologies
- Evaluation
- Formal methods
- Groupwork / CSCW
- Intelligent and adaptive interfaces
- Interaction architectures, tools and techniques
- Models of the user
- Multimedia/hypertext/hypermedia
- Organisational and societal issues
- Process Control
- Standards
- Telepresence/Teleworking
- User interface management
- Users with special needs
- Virtual reality
-
- Full Paper Deadlines:
-
- Full papers and tutorial submissions must be postmarked by:
- 29 JANUARY 1993
-
- Authors of accepted submissions will be notified by early April 1993, and
- camera-ready copy will be required by early May 1993.
-
- The following deadlines apply to items not for inclusion in the
- proceedings.
-
- Industrial submissions must be postmarked by:
- 28 MAY 1993
-
- Recent research submissions must be postmarked by:
- 30 JULY 1993
-
- Address
- All responses, enquiries and submissions should be addressed to:
-
- HCI'93 Conference
- Dr S.P. Guest
- Department of Computer Studies
- Loughborough University
- of Technology, Loughborough, Leicestershire LE11 3TU
- England

-
- Submissions:
-
- Every submission should have a cover sheet giving the following
- information:
-
- - the title of the submission;
- - the category of the submission (see below);
- - the address, phone number and email address of each of the authors;
- - a nomination of one of the authors as contact person for the submission.
-
- Please send SEVEN copies of each submission.
-
- The categories for submission are:
-
- Papers:
- Full draft papers are expected. These should be less than 6000 words in
- length, double-spaced, and include a 100-word abstract and keyword list.
- Some authors may be invited to re-submit papers as posters.
-
- Recent Research:
- These papers are expected to be topical, informative and may be
- controversial.
-
- Panels:
- Please submit a two-page proposal, including suggestions for panel members.
-
- Posters:
- Where it is felt that a visual presentation would benefit more than a
- paper, a poster submission should be made. Posters will not be rejected
- paper submissions.
-
- Applications of HCI in Industry:
- A number of sessions will be devoted to presentations of industrial and
- commercial HCI activity. Please submit two-page proposals for papers
- or demonstration sessions.
-
- Doctoral Consortium:
- Please submit a two-page description of your thesis, which as yet should be
- unexamined. The consortium will be a closed session before a panel of
- experts.
-
- Tutorials:
- Proposals are invited for half-day tutorials on any relevant topic.
- Tutorials may address HCI research, teaching or practice (industrial and
- commercial), and may be introductory or advanced in nature. A balanced
- tutorial programme will be selected in line with the results of a survey
- of tutorial requirements. Tutors will be paid a fee partly based on
- tutorial attendance.
-
- Please submit a two-page proposal, intended for attendees, containing:
-
- - objectives;
- - level and background of intended audience;
- - details of content;
- - style of presentation;
- - background of each tutor.
-
- Demonstrations:
- Please submit a two-page description of the demonstration, indicating space
- requirements. It is the responsibility of the demonstrator to provide the
- equipment. Demonstrations can be software, hardware or video.
-
- Exhibitors:
- A commercial exhibition will be mounted. Potential exhibitors should
- contact the above address for further details.
-
- Referees:
-
- Offers to referee submissions are invited from both industry and
- academia. Referees receive ten pounds off the conference cost per
- submission refereed. Potential referees should send contact details and

- HCI'93 Tutorials Questionnaire
-
- As at last year's conference, we would like to offer tutorials on topics
- that attendees wish to hear about. Some potential tutorial topics are
- listed below. Please mark those that you would like to attend were they
- to be offered. If necessary, annotate the list with the names of specific
- systems, methodologies or techniques you are interested in. If you have
- any other ideas we should like to hear them.
