- HARDWARE:

- 2 Vaxclusters (7 and 4 nodes resp.) running VMS
- 4 Sparcstations running UNIX; 3 Decstation 3100's running UNIX,
- 1 SGI IRIS, 5 NCD X-terminals, terminal server, network equipment, Macs,
- printers, terminals, etc.

- JOB DESCRIPTION:

- * Perform routine system administration on VAX/VMS clusters, DEC/Ultrix,
- Sun/Unix, MacIntosh, PC computers and their connecting network(s).
- * Have proficiency in DECnet, and a good understanding of TCP/IP protocols,
- NIS, and NFS.
- * Perform regular file backups of all computer systems.
- * Install and test new system and application software.
- * Assist in the installation of new computer equipment and peripherals.
- * Trouble-shoot system and network problems.
- * Act as liason with C&IS and other computer organizations (e.g. service).
- * Have a predetermined number of office hours per week and a number of on-call
- hours.
- * Be able to document services that are useful to users and other system
- administrators.
- * Be willing to educate users in simple matters related to the efficient use
- of our computer systems.
- * Be prepared to attend meetings and working group sessions related to
- computer systems.
- * Be willing to work out of business hours.
- * Be prepared to undertake application tuning (on the job training), e.g.
- * Keep track of and install new versions of data reduction software, such
- as IRAF, DAOPHOT AIPS and PROS. These things come out every 6 months or
- so, and it would be good to have some general distribution of the
- effect of significant new changes.

- reduces data doesn't have to reinvent the wheel.
