- The MITRE Corporation is an independent, not-for-profit organization
- operating in the public interest that conducts research and provides
- system engineering and acquisition support to U.S. government
- agencies. There is an opening in Bedford MA, in the MITRE Research
- Computer Facility (RCF) for a UNIX system administrator who will
- provide high quality, professional systems support. The RCF is a
- large distributed network of UNIX workstations that supports the
- research efforts of the MITRE Technology Program. Support is provided
- in the form of system and network administration.

- Activities include hardware and software configuration of networked UNIX
- workstations and servers: installing and maintaining third-party, public
- domain, and local software; system and network planning; general
- trouble-shooting; and assisting and advising users. Typical responsibilities
- will include interacting with X-windows, the Network File System,
- the Andrew File System, Kerberos, and NetNews.

- A successful candidate will be able to interact with others to establish
- goals and priorities, then work independently to accomplish those
- goals. Good problem solving skills, strong desire to grow,
- flexibility to learn new technologies, and good interpersonal and
- communication skills are nessessary.

- Candidates must at least be working toward a bachelor's of science degree
- in computer science or equivalent field. A good knowledge of the UNIX
- operating system, the C language, and shell programming are also required.
