  15. The MITRE Corporation is an independent, not-for-profit organization
  16. operating in the public interest that conducts research and provides
  17. system engineering and acquisition support to U.S. government
  18. agencies.  There is an opening in Bedford MA, in the MITRE Research
  19. Computer Facility (RCF) for a UNIX system administrator who will
  20. provide high quality, professional systems support.  The RCF is a
  21. large distributed network of UNIX workstations that supports the
  22. research efforts of the MITRE Technology Program. Support is provided
  23. in the form of system and network administration.

  25. Activities include hardware and software configuration of networked UNIX 
  26. workstations and servers: installing and maintaining third-party, public 
  27. domain, and local software; system and network planning; general 
  28. trouble-shooting; and assisting and advising users. Typical responsibilities 
  29. will include interacting with X-windows,  the Network File System, 
  30. the Andrew File System, Kerberos, and NetNews.

  32. A successful candidate will be able to interact with others to establish 
  33. goals and priorities, then work independently to accomplish those
  34. goals.  Good problem solving skills, strong desire to grow,
  35. flexibility to learn new technologies, and good interpersonal and 
  36. communication skills are nessessary.

  38. Candidates must at least be working toward a bachelor's of science degree 
  39. in computer science or equivalent field. A good knowledge of the UNIX 
  40. operating system, the C language, and shell programming are also required.
