- New Delhi has storngly objected to comments made by Pakistan President
- Gulam Ishaq Khan regarding Babri Masjid incidence during a speech in Pakistan's
- National Assembly on Tuesday. A spokesman for the External Affairs ministry in
- India said that such remarks were totally unacceptable and that Pakistan
- should concentrate on its own minority problems - an area in which Pakistan
- has a lamentable record.

- The 450 deported Palestinians have urged the Non-Aligned movement, and
- especially India to take actions to save them from the stiuation.

- Pakistan is to buy P22 tanks from Poland.

- In Sri Lanka 40 soldiers and some tamil militants were killed in

- * Center asks states to implement relief measures for the riot victims

- * Allahabad High Court to hold hearings for worship at Ayodhya site

- The central government has asked the states to take actions to implement
- the Prime Minister's announcement of giving relief to the victims of the
- recent incidents.

- On Monday the PM Mr. P V N Rao had announced the government's decision
- to award an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakhs to the next of kin of each
- person who was killed in the incidents. In cases where the deceased was
- the only earning member of the family, employment will be provided for the
- widow or a child. Other amounts of relief were also announced for other
- victims.

- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has decided to continue
- the hearing on an appeal to allow the holding of "darshan" in the temple
- built at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

- The BJP has requested the HIgh Court in India to allow Hindus to worship
- idols of Rama in the temple built at the disputed site.

- A series of protest marches were held in Ayodhya. There was no
- incidence of any serious disturbance, but a number of activists were briefly
- arrested.

- The BBC correspondent in Delhi, Sam Miller reported that it appears
- that in the days to come the BJP will intensify its demad to use the temple
- for worship. However, since the Central government has promised to
- rebuild the mosque, worship in the temple would come as an embarrassment.
