- This is a notice of a new position open at INFERENCE CORPORATION.
- I am providing sufficient detail to reduce initial response VOLUME!

- Position: Associate Technical Support Analyst, 1st Line.
- Start Date: February 1, 1992
- Salary Range: To be discussed, based-on... etc, generally low 30K's.

- INFERENCE CORPORATION is a software development company with several
- major commercial expert system software products released on many
- major platforms. Our product history, market research, and current
- plan reflect major growth and increased market share.

- The Technical Support Department will have one opening beginning
- in February and almost certainly another to begin most likely in May,
- 1993. We have a line-up of extremely talented people here who do a
- substantial amount of programming for both our customers and on in-
- house projects. This is the kind of supportive and creative environ-
- ment that fosters an enormous amount of personal development and
- knowledge acquisition.

- RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
- The position will be for 1st-line support. First line will be handling
- many of the incoming calls, much of the technical research taken on
- to solve those problems, and also some QA (test installs, etc) from
- out of development. Product Support at Inference Corporation is
- taken very seriously by all of our other departments, and because
- of the nature of our products and our customers, it requires a large
- amount of technical prowess (in addition to the communicative skills
- discussed below), and a background programming in various environments,
- in order for you to flourish here.

- REQUIRED BACKGROUND/SKILLS:
-
- A technical background in Computer/Information Sciences is a MUST, as
- is some experience in Customer Support or Service.

- You MUST be presently permitted to work legally in this country, and
- living in (or willing to move to) the greater Los Angeles area.
-
- You must have a 'healthy' percentage of the following skills/ assets:
- (I.E. DO NOT RESPOND if you don't have/ can't show at least 5 of:)
-
- * BA/BS/MS in CompSci or CompEng/ OR/ BA/BS IS + 2yr Experience
- in some form of Technical Support)
- * C/UNIX (VARIOUS architectures to include Sun4 & HP)
- * LISP, or at least the principles behind it.
- * UNIX & NOVELL NETWORKS.
- * PC/WINDOWS/DOS
- * X-Window/Xview/Motif/Openwindows or at least *some* UNIX GUI
- * Excellent Interpersonal Skills (written & spoken)
- * Interests to include Problem Solving. All of the Analysts here,
- at all different levels, share this common interest. It also
- helps us improve our knowledge & skills.
- * A balance between enjoying helping customers (the right way) and
- solving problems by yourself or with a team. We do all of that.
- And no, "JE NE SAIS QUOI" would not be part of the job description,
- but it will definitely come across during an interview...

- NOT REQUIRED BUT WOULD BE A MAJOR PLUS:

- * AI background of some kind (expert systems / fuzzy-logic). All of
- Inference's products are Expert Systems shells of various kinds.
- If you know ART-IM or CLIPS *well*, that would be *EXCELLENT*.
- * QA/Test-Installation Experience
- * Direct experience in a TS Dep't for a software dev. Co/Corp.
- * An offbeat sense of humor and (according to the others here...)
- a proven affinity for EITHER: Monty Python or Dave Barry.
