- JA> Answering a msg of <20 Dec 92>, from JIM DIXON to OLIVIA SCHAUBLE:
- JA> Jim, do you have access to all the data sheets available for any
- JA> chemical? I am coordinating the record keeping for all chemical goods
-
- Yes. The IRPTC is a registry of all potentially toxic chemicals. It may
- include metals, gases etc. Depending on the various databanks, specific
- forms are used. Each contains the CAS and RTECS registry numbers as
- reference.
-
- JA> at our school and am looking for a standardized print-out for our lab
- JA> chemicals as well as shop and janitorial chemicals. Is there a
- JA> database available to download specific information for chemicals
- JA> which do not have company supplied spec sheets?
-
- Excellent. You must have a very large Hdrive for the 10 millionth chemical
- was recently registered :-)
- The forms used by the IRPTC are a United Nations standard format. However,
- if your database is to simply provide the various common, synonym, registry
- numbers, molecular formula etc., then a UNEP standard format is supplied.
- Following is an example extracted from the IRPTC IDENTIFIERS databank;
-
- ISN=40
- CHEMICAL NAME: GLYCINE, N-(PHOSPHONOMETHYL)
- COMMON NAME: GLYPHOSATE
- RTECS NUMBER: MC1075000 WISWESSER:QV1M1PQQO
- CAS NUMBER: 1071-83-6
- MOLECULAR WEIGHT: 169.1
- MOLECULAR FORMULA: C3H8NO5P
- SYNONYMS: MON 0573 N-(PHOSPHONOMETHYL) GLYCINE
- MELTING PT: 200-230C BOILING PT:
- FLASH PT: FLAM LIMIT:
- DENSITY: 1.74G/ML
- RVDN:
- VP: NEGLIGIBLE N-OCTOH:AQ:
- AQSOL: 12G/L(25C) STATE: SOLID
- COLOUR: WHITE ODOUR: ODOURLESS
- SURF TEN: TASTE:
- FAT.SOL:
- INSOLUBLE IN MOST ORGANIC SOLVENTS
- COMMENTS: CORROSIVE TO IRON AND GALVANIZED STEEL. SPRAYER PARTS CAN BE
- RELEASED BY FLUSHING WITH WATER. THE ISOPROPYLAMINE SALT IS MOST USED
- (CAS RN: 38641-94-0). ROUNDUP IS A FORMULATED PRODUCT WITH THE
- MONO ISOPROPYLAMINE SALT OF GLYPHOSATE AS THE ACTIVE INGREDIENT.

-
- Other areas, such as LEGALS, Special Toxicity, Chemobiokinetics,
- Environmental Fate and Pathways, Waste, etc., use a standard format.
-
- As for accessing the database yourself, last I heard it was limited to
- access via iNet (at $120.00 registration fee, plus prime/non-prime time
- access plus $10.00 per hour access.) The IRPTC/UNEP system uses the
- MINISIS query system operating on 8 seperate yet inter-addressable frames.
- I have free access [with the blessings of the IRPTC/Health & Welfare
- Canada] which is why I offer to assist anyone in researching chemicals and
- related studies. I understand that they may be offering public access and
- will dig through my piles to see how this might be accomplished.
-
- If you'll respond to this (so I don't lose you), I should have the
- information by then and will post it back to you.
