- I have revived a Tower 1632 (PMC II xp upgrade installed).
- I am getting write error 5 on the tapes, after 10000 or so blocks.
-
-
- The tape drive is a cipher QIC streamer that came with the box in 1985.
- What is the correct media? I used to buy these from "NCR Direct".
- The most recent NCR catalog only shows 3M tapes for the Tower xp.
- DC600A. I bought these, and am having limited success.
-
- Out of the box I had to return 2 for degausing to 3M. Only one
- worked when they came back.
-
- I got some full backups done; but now I have 5 tapes that all give write
- errors somewhere on the tape. Kinda of a slow failure rate over a month
- in which I moved the box off site. I did get
- clean backups a time or two from these DC600A tapes.
-
- Do I have the correct media? I cleaned the head before the move.
- Do I need to clean it again? Is there likely something wrong with
- the drive? It passes in service diagnostics OK; but I do not try
- to write a whole tape with in service diagnostics.
-
- Thanks
