- i have certain files that usually cause the Finder to quit
- when copied. what's unusual is that copies of these files have the
- same behavior, and i think i have ruled out media, system extensions,
- hardware, applications and viruses.
-
- this behavior happens on a IIci, IIsi or IIcx, each running system 6.07.
- it doesn't matter if i just duplicate, or copy from any medium (HD, SyQuest,
- floppy, TOPS volume) to any other. i have turned off all extensions, tried
- using Disktop instead of Finder, run Disk First Aid, Norton Utilities,
- and Disinfectant all without luck. oddly, the files are usually created by
- Freehand 3.0 or Filemaker Pro. the files have originated on different
- computers. if i attempt to copy such a file, it will usually
- cause the Finder to quit, but when on a 5meg si w/o MultiFinder, the system
- will usually hang. occasionally i get a message to the effect "There is
- a problem with the file and it could not be read." often the copy is
- "partly" successful, leaving an unusable, smaller stub of a file.
-
- i can always get a successful copy after several tries. i can almost always
- open the files with their applications and Print, Save As, etc., no problem.
- however the regular or Save As copies have the same copying problem.
- i would greatly appreciate any solutions or suggestions.
- (please mail--i read news infrequently.)
