i have certain files that usually cause the Finder to quit
when copied. what's unusual is that copies of these files have the
same behavior, and i think i have ruled out media, system extensions,
hardware, applications and viruses.

this behavior happens on a IIci, IIsi or IIcx, each running system 6.07.
it doesn't matter if i just duplicate, or copy from any medium (HD, SyQuest,
floppy, TOPS volume) to any other. i have turned off all extensions, tried
using Disktop instead of Finder, run Disk First Aid, Norton Utilities,
and Disinfectant all without luck. oddly, the files are usually created by
Freehand 3.0 or Filemaker Pro. the files have originated on different
computers. if i attempt to copy such a file, it will usually
cause the Finder to quit, but when on a 5meg si w/o MultiFinder, the system
will usually hang. occasionally i get a message to the effect "There is
a problem with the file and it could not be read." often the copy is
"partly" successful, leaving an unusable, smaller stub of a file.

i can always get a successful copy after several tries. i can almost always
open the files with their applications and Print, Save As, etc., no problem.
however the regular or Save As copies have the same copying problem.
i would greatly appreciate any solutions or suggestions.
