  14. I've discovered a way to get math speed back into Mac IIci's and other 68882
  15. equipped machines with 68030 processors when running System 7.1. As has been
  16. published in the Mac press, Apple dropped a Math SANE "hack" in System 7.1
  17. that was in 7.01. This "hack" had speeded up math, and some graphics
  18. performance on the IIci and others when running 7.01.

  20. Radius Math 1.5, an extension available on-line (at least on AOL) from Radius,
  21. seems to improve math performance by at least 50 percent on a IIci running
  22. 7.1. Speedometer 3.1 tests showed math performance numbers improving from 12
  23. to more than 18, with graphics performance improving, but less so. I have
  24. tested this on three IIci's: One with a Radius 8.24 xp card (and 16-inch Apple
  25. RGB), the second with Apple's latest 8.24 GC card in accelerated mode (into
  26. another Apple 16-inch RGB), and the third IIci was using on-board video (into
  27. a 13-inch Apple RGB.)

  29. No conflicts were discovered, all three machines are running with the same
  30. init sets as before (more than 20 in once case), and I have found no problems
  31. at all: no crashes, freezes or other anomalies. I did find that machine
  32. performance improved to a greater degree when Radius Math loaded early in the
  33. startup sequence.
