  11. About half a year ago I decided to upgrade my Classic and asked the NET for
  12. recommendations. Probably because there were not too many people that had
  13. done a Compact Mac upgrade, I got few replies.

  15. After that time I have upgraded my Classic and have been running it with a
  16. Total System's Gemini Classic (50 MHZ) with FPU for about 3 months now.
  17. I believe a lot of people out there who are not satisfied with the 
  18. performance of their compact Macs will be interested in my experiences. So
  19. here it goes.

  21. First of all, the performance improvement is great! It is now faster than
  22. an IIfx. I cannot stand the speed of even an SE/30 anymore. Speedup is
  23. most noticeable in Math and CPU intensive tasks. The least improved are
  24. disk accesses.

  26. Secondly, there have been very few compatibility problems. Actually, the only
  27. one I experienced was not really incompatibility: the machine is now too
  28. fast for a time-based game (SQIX, if you want to know) to be practical.
  29. Some software that I downloaded from ftp sites bombs, but, you know, you are
  30. never sure whose fault it was. At least, what worked before still works now.
  31. That is good enough for me.

  33. I would also like to say something about Total Systems. I think this is a 
  34. very nice company and pleasant to deal with. I actually had chances taking
  35. to their sales manager and head of tech support when there were such needs.

  37. Overall I am very happy with the upgrade. If you want to hear more, please
  38. let me know. I will NOT reply personally but will post subsequent articles
  39. instead, as I believe this is a subject of general interest. I will be
  40. happy to answer any questions about my experience with the accelerator and
  41. its software, the installation, and with the Total Systems, etc.
