- It depends on your company; check with them.
-
- Generally if you use your computer for any amount of business purposes,
- then they may not want to insure it. Otherwise they may include it
- automatically, or they may want to write a rider for it (like some do
- for camera equipment or jewelry).
-
- If you want special insurance company to insure just your computer, I know
- of only one: Safeware. They advertise in MacWorld and MacUser and have an
- 800 number, but I don't have it on me (let me know if you want me to look
- it up when i get home). I don't really know how good they are, because
- they are pretty much the only one, but I do have a policy with them. You
- can get a policy for ~$60 for $3-5K of coverage. They insure against just
- about everything (including power surge problems), and for replacement
- value.
-
- If you find out that your homeowner's policy will cover your computer,
- then go with that -- it'll probably be cheaper. Just make sure you're
- insured for replacement value, not depreciated value (generally an extra
- 10-15%).
