  22. a friend got some Toshiba 830's and Fujitsu 520's last August at
  23. MacWorld. We tested
  24. them out with HDT Toolkit's bench test program. The Toshiba has a
  25. disappointing
  26. sustained transfer rate for such a big drive - I can't remember exactly
  27. but it was
  28. around 800 Kbyte/sec, an earlier post today mentioned the Fujitsu does
  29. 2100 K/s.
  30. Sustained transfer speed is important if you're going to be capturing
  31. sound to
  32. disk.

  34. Also the Toshiba is quite loud while it's spinning, the Fujitsu is louder
  35. seeking
  36. but quieter overall.

  38. So, there's a reason the Toshiba is so few $/MB. But if performance
  39. similar to a 
  40. Quantum 80 is ok, then it's a great deal.
