- Well, after a few days of playing Pax, I have to admit that I'm dissapointed.
- Game play is very tedious, and I now see why the makers of Spaceward Ho!
- decided to sacrifice realism for the sake of gameplay. Pax is very slow on my
- 5/80 IIsi when the combat screen comes up, though action in the universe window
- seems to move fast enough at the normal setting. (I've only played with 5 stars
- at most however.)
-
- I'm not saying I don't like the detail and realism, just that it causes the
- simulation to run slow as molasses. Now that I've seen these two games in
- action, I would love to see a combination of the two. Then we would truly have
- the ultimate space conquest game.
-
- This would be my wish list for such a game:
-
- - Star systems like Pax has, random every time you play. (Why are all those
- planets just floating around in space in the Ho! ?) I REALLY like this part
- of Pax.
-
- - Ship design like Pax has. It's fun to design your own weapons and such, but
- the manual should explain what the existing default systems do.
-
- - Fleet control like Pax. The ability to mix ship types is nice.
-
- - Combat should be somewhere between the two games. We need a bit more control
- than the Ho! gives, but Pax's system is just to much. This should be where
- most of the fun happens in the game, not the most frustration, as is the case
- with Pax, IMHO.
-
- - Network play like the Ho!
-
- - Better feedback like Ho!. In Spaceward Ho!, when you are given a message, you
- know what to do. In Pax, you may be told what is happening, but never where or
- what to do about it. Get rid of advisors!
-
- That's all I can think of for now, I'm sure others have their own ideas. For
- now though, I think I'd still have to say that Spaceward Ho! is the best Mac
- space conquest game.
-
- This is all IMHO!!!!
