  26. I think you're getting some of the services of the NeXT confused with their
  27. Mail front-end.

  29. NeXTMail is basically RTF format text with uuencoded attachments. The
  30. "non-NeXTMail" format is mostly ASCII with some codes thrown in to help
  31. NeXTMail locate the linebreaks to preserve the paragraph flow when another
  32. NeXT receives the message.

  34. It sounds like you want something that'll allow you to translate the
  35. NeXTMail message with sounds attached, to a Mac email message with the
  36. sounds attached and playable on the Mac.

  38. The NeXT sound format is not the same as the Mac format. It is much more
  39. complicated (and capable as it is CD Stereo quality). Tools exist to
  40. convert to/from Mac and other sound formats. If I remember right, a NeXT
  41. sound file is very close to Sun .au format.

  43. I know of nothing that will do all the conversions on the fly for you.
  44. *You* can manually do them though. Tools exist to allow you to uudecode a
  45. file (Tickle at SUMEX-AIM is very good).

  47. Current Mac email programs are not good candidates for this. Also, NeXTMail
  48. is their own proprietary method of sending mail. The two probably won't
  49. meet. What you can look for would be a MIME mail client for both systems.
  50. MIME will support the text formatting and is supposed to be better at
  51. handling attachments. However, I've not heard of a Mac MIME client and only
  52. a few Unix ones.

  55. one of Blitzmail's creators) will chip in and blow my thoughts out of the
  56. water... they've got a hell of a lot more experience than me with this
  57. stuff. :-)
