- I just got a xerox of the February 1993 MacUser. They reviewed Zterm,
- MacIntercomm, MicroPhone II, Smartcom II, and White Knight. Zterm they
- basically said "OK for many and it's cheap", White Knight they completely
- trashed, MacIntercomm got dinged for not actually coming out with all of their
- promised features yet. That leaves SC and MP. Basically they said that MP's
- more powerful, but that SC does a really good job at what it does and is a
- little cheaper. They seemed to feel that having extra features is a plus if
- you use them and a minus if you don't, which seems kind of strange -- I think
- they're a plus if you use them and a zero if you don't as long as the program
- lets you ignore them -- which we do. They also didn't mention things like
- we're the only one that's cross-platform, so if you've got to support
- Windows users you can just port your scripts over without a lot of hassle.
-
- Anyway, it's a good article, although they didn't review VersaTerm. Here's
- the summary unedited from the end, unless I mistype something :-) It was
- written by Tom Petaccia, and I'm sure it's copyright 1993 MacUser and/or
- Ziff Davis, inc...

- Good Connections
- Depending on your needs and level of telecom expertise, you really have only
- two programs to choose from. Smartcom II is simple and powerful enough for
- the majority of Mac telecom users. For those whose activity is limited
- primarily to direct connections with other users and logging on to on-line
- services, Smartcom will be more than enough. If you want or need more high-
- powered features, such as buttons, extensibility through XCMDs, and custom
- interfaces, look to MicroPhone II. If MacIntercomm's scripting language
- delivers all that's been promised, however, it could offer some serious
- competition.
