  12. I've been using VersaTerm 4.6 for vt100 emulation for a couple of
  13. months now and it is a nice program ... faster than many other
  14. programs and with a lot more flexibility.

  16. But there's something about it that drives me NUTS -- I frequently use
  17. it to accesss a tty-interface service and retrieve long documents that
  18. are streamed to the screen. With, say, MicroPhone II, I can start the
  19. transmission, then go to the top of the document and read it as it's
  20. streaming. New text is added at the end of the buffer, and I can just
  21. read down through it.

  23. Not in VersaTerm. Every time new data is received into the buffer, the
  24. program scrolls you right to the end of the buffer. So there is no way
  25. to read the top of the story as the bottom scrolls in -- you keep
  26. getting jumped back down to the new data that's being sent.

  28. Two related nits: I can't configure my keyboard so that the PAGE UP
  29. and PAGE DOWN keys (on an Apple extended kb) move the buffer locally
  30. rather than sending escape sequences to the host). Also, VersaTerm
  31. flashes the cursor to any spot that has to be written -- for instance,
  32. I'm writing this now in Emacs. When the time changes from minute to
  33. minute, the cursor flashes down to the mode line. When I delete text
  34. with Ctrl-D, the cursor flashes back and forth between the point and
  35. the text being deleted. It's extremely aggravating.

  37. Okay, those are my nits. :) It's a good program, I'd just like to see
  38. a few aspects of the buffer improved.

  40. (Also, it's got a very convenient internal texteditor which beats MP's
  41. idiotic editor by leagues.)
