  27. Rather than reinvent the wheel, here is a portion of our press release
  28. (edited for length) that I believe does a good job of describing in detail
  29. what SuperATM is:

  31. Within any Macintosh(R) or Windows(TM) environment application that
  32. supports SuperATM(TM) software, a metrically exact substitute font is
  33. automatically created for any Adobe(TM) Type Library font (and a selection
  34. of TrueType(TM) fonts) found in a document. This substitution process
  35. accurately preserves the document's original line and page breaks,
  36. regardless of where the document was created or what fonts were used.

  38. The document may also be edited using the substituted fonts, and the edited
  39. version will display and print the original fonts when opened on a system
  40. that contains them. The substituted versions are metrically identical to
  41. the original outlines, but will lack some of the fine detail of the
  42. original design.

  44. Product Description
  45. SuperATM software is based on two key Adobe technologies: an enhanced
  46. version of Adobe Type Manager font-rasterizing software, and Adobe's
  47. multiple master type technology announced in 1991. All substituted fonts,
  48. serif or sans serif, are derived from two new multiple master designs
  49. developed especially for this product.

  51. SuperATM software also includes typeface software for five unique symbol
  52. and display typefaces that do not convert well in font substitution: 
  53. Symbol(R), ITC Zapf Dingbats(R), Bellevue(TM), Cottonwood(TM) and
  54. Madrone(TM).

  56. Currently, SuperATM software performs automatic font substitution with any
  57. of these leading Macintosh applications:  Microsoft(R) Word 4.0 and 5.0,
  58. Microsoft Excel 3.0 and 4.0, Aldus PageMaker 4.2, QuarkXpress 3.1, Aldus
  59. Freehand 3.1, MacDraw Pro 1.5, Adobe TypeAlign(TM) 1.0.5, FileMaker Pro
  60. 1.0, ReadySetGo! 4.5a and 5.0, ClarisWorks 1.0, Claris Resolve 1.0,
  61. MacProject II 2.5v1, MacProject Pro, Nisus 3.06, Publish-It 2.1, Publish-It
  62. Easy! 1.0, MathType 2.11 and QUED/M 2.09. Other leading Macintosh and
  63. Windows applications are expected to support SuperATM in the near future.

  65. If the user's Macintosh application does not support automatic font
  66. substitution, the benefits of SuperATM are still available. The user simply
  67. installs the bitmaps of the needed typefaces and font substitution occurs.
  68. To ensure that all the bitmaps are available for this process, Adobe is
  69. including its Type On Call(TM) CD-ROM with the SuperATM program. The CD-ROM
  70. contains an unlocked bitmap for more than 1,300 Adobe Type Library fonts.

  72. In addition, the SuperATM package includes Adobe Type Reunion(TM) software
  73. for menu management of both original and substitute fonts. A
  74. click-to-install program is also included to simplify installation of the
  75. various elements of the package.
