- There's a Disability Solutions area on AppleLink, so I was able to find the
- following info (edited slightly):
-

-
- The Optacon II converts regular print or computer output into vibrating,
- tactile shapes. With one hand, the blind user moves a tiny camera across
- the
- page, the other hand rests on a bed of vibrating rods that give a tactile
- representation of what the camera is reading. With inTOUCH software, the
- Optacon II will tactually display information shown on the Macintosh╒s
- screen.
- All graphics and text (including icons, menus, etc.) are displayed on the
- Optacon╒s tactile bed of rods. The mouse is used to automatically scan
- lines
- of text. inTOUCH can be used with outSPOKEN, a talking Macintosh interface,
- to
- provide speech and tactile output of the Macintosh╒s screen. TeleSensory.

- outSPOKEN is a software program that adds a talking interface to the
- Macintosh. Instead of assuming that the user can see the graphics and text
- that appear on the screen, outSPOKEN describes them aloud, giving auditory
- cues to every image on the computer╒s screen. All icons, menu items,
- windows,
- and mouse commands are spoken, as is text that appears on-screen. With
- outSPOKEN, an individual who is blind can use the Macintosh despite not
- being
- able to see the screen. Berkeley Systems, Inc. 510-540-5535
