- Okay, here goes again...
-
- I have:
- a Gateway 2000 Handbook portable (a microscopic thing, ~2 lbs., essentially
- a stock AT plus a 1.4meg 3.5" floppy drive) which has 2 serial ports, and
- a box for using an amiga with midi equipment: a serial connector on one end,
- four midi jacks on the other.
-
- My theory:
- If this midi box can be driven via RS232 from an Amiga, it should be
- driveable (w/ the right software...) from a pc clone, i.e. my laptop, and
- thus would make sequencing for gigs far easier (the amiga is not very
- portable.)
-
- My questions:
- does software exist, in any form, to drive midi equipment through a serial
- port on an IBM or equiv.? all IBM midi stuff I have seen has involved cards,
- and my laptop obviously has no slots. Has anyone bothered to write software
- for common rs232->midi interfaces?
- Alternatively, does anybody know the protocol that these things use? is it
- a proprietary thing, varying with the software/adapter brand? If so, I can
- find out the brand and post.. it's not in my posession at the moment.
-
- Many thanks for any help. If this mad endeavor results in my writing some
- sort of serial sequence player, I shall most probably share it with the rest
- of the world.
