- I've been recreating the Bears season using TLSF Football and
- it has really been quite fun. After 7 games, the Bears are 4-3,
- with losses to Minnesota, Atlanta and Detroit. The Bears D has
- real problems defending the run and shoot.
- I've been using this season's schedule, and the season is
- developing along the lines of this one. The Bears gave up 14 pts
- in the 4th Qtr to lose 21-20 to a Vikes team that they had been
- shutting down all day, much like the 1st Bears-Vikes meeting this
- season. The computer went into the 2 minute drill. Overall, the
- computer is pretty good at running the different teams along
- the strengths of the team. The AI is pretty darn good as well.
- I was trashing the Pack 31-7 in the 4th quarter with about 8 min
- left to go. The computer realized that it better go into no
- huddle and try and throw the ball from the shotgun. It didn't
- try and isolate Sterling Sharpe (Sanchez) as much as I thought
- it would, but it ran draws well to keep me from laying back so
- much. But I shut it down at its own 30. The computer had 4th and
- 7 on its own 30 down 24 with 6 minutes to go. It punted. That
- might seem like a bad move when reading it, but actually that
- was smart AI. I have never seen the computer not go for it when
- in the 2 minute drill. But here it did, because had I recovered
- on the 30, the rout would have been assured.
- The Bears have a hard choice in that Nickel is a better pass
- defense than a 4-3 3 Deep Zone in my experience, but the numbers
- suggest that the Bears LB covers better than the extra DB they
- get from the nickel package. But it still seems as if Nickel
- covers the pass alot better than the zone. I have a feeling that
- you have to sort of factor the numbers by position. For exmple,
- a DB with a 6 pass coverage covers as well as a LB with an 8.
- I know, I know, but that is how it seems, at least with the
- Bears.
- The AI plays the Run and Shoot teams with the Run and Shoot,
- and the 3-4 defense teams with a 3-4. I like the way the AI
- changes to fit the makeup of the team. The Bears use a 60-40
- Run-Pass attack. Right now Harbaugh has about 6 TDs and 12 Ints.
- He isn't that hot. Anderson and Rouse (Andrews and Rose) carry
- the load evenly. They each get about 75 yrds a game rushing on
- average. Anderson is a great screen pass back, and Rouse runs
- the weak side slant from the Brown formation as well as any
- back in the game. Waddle (Warrel) almost exclusively relies on
- the quick out and sideline patterns. Davis (Becchio) runs the
- crossing route the best. The Saints and the Packers were real
- walkovers. It's hard to stop the Bucs Reggie Cobb (Corn). The
- NY Giants Andrews (OJ Anderson) is a heck of a back, much better
- than he was in real life, I think. And of course, Sanders of the
- Lions is one of the top 5 backs in the game. Next week, a Monday
- Night rematch with the dreaded Vikes! Gotta shut the Carters
- down the WHOLE game to win. And the Vikes play some decent D.
